Let’s start by saying it was Jeanne’s turn to pick the movie…so there will be no car chases or bombs exploding this week.  Instead we decided to celebrate the holiday many love to hate…and see “Valentine’s Day”.  The movie follows the interwoven lives of several couples as they experience the day of love. Some of the couples are in the brand new shiny penny version of love, others are trying to figure out where they stand, some are facing hard times, others reconnecting. And the cast of this movie is A M A Z I N G.  The main character Reed Bennett (played by Ashton Kutcher) is followed through most of the movie, all the other characters are connected through him, either directly or through friends of a direct link.  It’s like six degrees of separation to Reed.  Anyway, there are some serious names in this movie, including: Jennifer Garner, Jamie Foxx, Anne Hathaway, Kathy Bates, Shirley MacLaine, Julie Roberts, Patrick Dempsey, Topher Grace, Jessica Alba, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Jessica Biel, Queen Latifah and Hector Elizondo (who has apparently been 12 films by director Marshall) …whew my fingers are tired and that is just the surface…there are many more. The movie is directed by Garry Marshall, who brought us such favorites as Pretty Woman, A League of Their Own, The Princess Diaries and Beaches.  He had such talent to work with this movie must have been a blast to make.

This week we review “Angels and Demons” the second installment in The Da Vinci Code from author Dan Howard.  Director Ron Howard (who also directed the first movie) takes us on a journey through Rome and Vatican City. The movie takes us to actual locations such as Piazza del Popolo, The Pantheon and the Royal Palace in Campania.  These ancient locations played a key role in the movement of the film.

We join Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) sometime after the end of the first book/movie.  As you may have deduced from the title this movie has more significant religious overtones.  We follow Langdon as he tracks down the “Illuminati” threat to Vatican City.

When a teenage girl leaves Phoenix to spend a year with her father in a small town, she knew there would be things that would take some getting used too, she just never though it would be quite this different.  Slowly, she begins to realize that a group of students at the school is not just a little strange, but there is something very different about them.  Soon she learns the truth, there is a family of vampires who have taken up residence in her fathers small town, and she is falling for one of them.

Twilight is a cautionary tale, thinly veiled in the vampire mythos.  Lessons on abstinence and trust are woven throughout the story, and as with any good vampire movie, we get a little lesson in blood feeding.  Love story, Drama, Horror…its a little of everything.  Listen as Jeanne and Mike give you their review of Twilight, the teen vampire movie with a heart.  Availadle now on DVD.  Don’t forget to come back later this week for our premier review of  X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

This week Mike and Jeanne review The Secret Life of Bees, and Mike give you his solo take on the new Niocholas Cage movie, Knowing.  When a young teenager runs away from home, she starts a journey in life that leads to dicoveries not only about the world, but also about herself, Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah star in The Secret Life of Bees.  When college professor John Koestler played by Nicolas Cage, finds a patern and meaning in long ago fogotten numbers, what he discovers not only hold the sevret to the past, but may just hold the secret to the future of humanity.  Knowing is not always a good thing.

Listen to our review of Race to Witch Mountain, the latest attempt by Disney to rekindle some of its past glory.  This time we take Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson along for the ride, and the two kids a a tad older.  Sure the plot is a bit predictable…but what do you expect for a kids movie?  The real question is can the comedic stylings of a former wrestling champion mesh with the robotic dialog of two teens who are really aliens…I know it sounds like a match made in heaven, but The Rock has actually been developing a pretty good sense of comedic timing, although his emotional range is a tad limited.
